Joseph Figliolia
Joe Figliolia is a policy analyst at the Manhattan Institute. His work explores the nuances of the research literature on gender dysphoria and gender affirming care as a treatment modality, and how the state of our knowledge in this area, or the lack thereof, should inform policy decisions. Figliolia’s analysis supports MI fellow Leor Sapir, and his research and commentary on all aspects—educational, institutional, legal, scientific, philosophical—of the debate surrounding pediatric gender medicine.
Prior to joining the Manhattan Institute, Figliolia worked as a research coordinator for the MRI program at the New York State Psychiatric Institute, and as a graduate teaching assistant in Clinical Psychology at New York University. His academic interests include clinical psychology, social theory, the philosophy of psychology, and the history of ideas.
Figliolia studied psychology and English at SUNY Geneseo, where he graduated summa cum laude. He received an MA from NYU’s Center for Experimental Humanities, where his coursework focused on the philosophy of psychology.
