Josh B. McGee

Josh B. McGee was formerly a senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute. In 2020, he was named the chief data officer for the state of Arkansas. In 2015, McGee was appointed by Governor Greg Abbott as chairman of the Texas Pension Review Board, where he served until July 2019. His research on retirement policy, K–12 education, and economic development has been published in various scholarly journals, including Education Finance and Policy, Journal of Development Economics, and Education Next. McGee’s popular writing has appeared in National Affairs, USA Today, Dallas Morning News, Philadelphia Inquirer, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and Houston Chronicle. He has provided expert testimony and technical assistance in more than 50 jurisdictions and routinely speaks to the media on retirement issues and K–12 policy. McGee holds a B.S. and an M.S. in industrial engineering and a Ph.D. in economics, all from the University of Arkansas.
